Former UL coach arraigned, charged with sexual battery of student
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — A former Union Local coach accused of sexual battery of a student was arraigned Tuesday morning.
Joby Barr, 31, last known address 205 Church St., Morristown, was arraigned and pleaded innocent to four counts of sexual battery, a third-degree felony. His plea agreement hearing was set for Dec. 13 and trial Jan. 11. His bond was set at $10,000.
Belmont County Prosecutor Kevin Flanagan confirmed the alleged victim was a student and the incident occurred last school year. In the interest of protecting the victim’s identity, Flanagan would give no further information about the circumstances of the alleged offense. Barr was under contract as a girls’ basketball assistant coach. Flanagan said Barr is no longer under contract with the district. Barr faces a maximum of five years in prison for each count.
