Life is expanding at Tappan Lake

TAPPAN – With the explosion of cabin and marina life the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District reported this summer, others are capitalizing on the popularity of outdoor recreation.
It’s being done not by the district but by private developer Lawton Brock, owner of Brandywine Construction.
Cabins are under construction now just down the road from Tappan Lake’s public boat launch along U.S. 250 in Harrison County. It’s been a dream of Brock’s for quite some time, and now it’s literally in the works with 10 cabins now up or being constructed and another seven on the way.
Brock said after operating some Airbnbs around Tappan and the constant business it’s been generating, he said that was the sign to move ahead. Brock has owned the construction company for 15 years.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Brock said last week as he climbed down from his backhoe. “This is the type of property I envisioned to be developed.”
The property itself was once a strip mall that burned down and was never rebuilt, Brock explained.
And shopping, to a much lesser extent, will be returning, as there are plans for a convenience store to run along the road with a recreation center of sorts placed just above on a shelf of land equipped with showers and bathrooms. The rec center, according to Brock, will be a meeting place to host family reunions and other gatherings for people to enjoy.
Brock began construction in August and plans on working through the winter to be up and running by the summer of 2022.
