One arrested after double homicide in Monroe County

WOODSFIELD — A suspect has been arrested following a double homicide taking place late Saturday night in Monroe County, and more information pertaining to the case is expected to be released today.

Sheriff Charles Black confirmed Sunday a man was being held at the Monroe County Jail on suspicion of the murders. Black added the names of the deceased and the suspect and more specific information will not be released until family members of the deceased are notified, and he expected those details to become available today.

Black confirmed the two men were shot multiple times, and that their bodies were found at a trash dump along Ohio 26 south of Woodsfield.

A statement posted on social media by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a woman contacted the department at 10:06 p.m. Saturday, and told dispatchers that three men had just left the residence to take trash up over the hill in the forest. Only one of the men returned, and he took off in his vehicle.

The sheriff’s department, along with the Division of Wildlife, arrived on scene and searched the trash dump property. The deceased bodies of the two men were located at the dump site with multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect who fled was found and is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail.
