St. C. Memorial Park shelters fawn

Photo Provided

This fawn rests in a shelter erected by St. Clairsville/Richland Township Memorial Park after it became stuck between a fence post and the dugout at the baseball field. It apparently battled all through the night to free itself, severely injuring itself and coming close to death, according to St. Clairsville police Officer T.J. Stewart. Employees and officers were able to free her, but she was barely able to stand and could not walk on her own. She was confined to a small fenced area where the park staff provided water and signage so nobody would bother her. Stewart posted on Facebook that the fawn’s mother checked on her daily. With the help of the park Manager Katie Banks, her staff and Councilwoman Terra Butler, who provided carrots, strawberries and watermelon, the fawn healed and was released to her mother Sunday. Stewart also was grateful for an anonymous animal rehabilitator who donated time and medication.
