Davis running for office held in past

WOODSFIELD — Carl Davis, who previously served as a Monroe County commissioner, is looking to unseat Mick Schumacher in the Nov. 8 election.

Davis, a Lewisville resident, is running on the Democratic ticket. He previously was a commissioner for 12 years until being unseated in November 2020 by Republican Diane Burkhart.

Prior to becoming a commissioner in 2008, Davis worked at the Ormet plant as a steelworker and was a union officer.

He was vice president of the local union before his retirement. Davis has been a volunteer firefighter for over 32 years with the Lewisville Fire Department and was a township trustee in Wayne Township for 11 years before being elected to the county board of commissioners.

“When I was in office before, I made it a priority to attend regional meetings and meetings of our state association. I was a member of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio Executive Committee, and in 2020 I was president of the CCAO, and I’ve been involved in our national organization and attended several functions,” he said.

For more than 30 years, Davis has been involved with the 4-H livestock sales committee, assisting the youth of the county.

Davis said the biggest concerns facing the county today are infrastructure, jobs, health care and transportation.

“I plan to work with our state and federal representatives to hopefully make improvements,” he said.

Davis believes his prior experience will aid him in making decisions that will best benefit residents.

“If elected, I would continue representing Monroe County outside of the county and making contacts to bring businesses and expansion into the county,” he said, adding that he plans to focus on bringing broadband into Monroe County.

Davis has been married to his wife, Susan, for 45 years. They have two adult children, Eric Davis and Angela Heinrich, and three grandsons.

In his spare time, Davis said he enjoys camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandsons.
