Photo by Derek Redd Firefighters battle a blaze that began at the top of Wilson Furniture in Bridgeport on Friday night.

BRIDGEPORT — An apparently serious fire broke out at the Wilson Furniture Store Friday evening.

Multiple Belmont County fire officials confirmed that a fire was reported at the longtime Bridgeport business. Some of the earliest reports of the blaze were received shortly after 8 p.m.

Traffic around the area of the store apparently was backed up with motorists trying to access major routes such as Ohio 7 and U.S. 40 following Wheeling’s annual Main Street Bank Fantasy in Lights Parade.

Firefighters from the Bellaire, Bridgeport, Wolfhurst, Wheeling, Brilliant and Martins Ferry fire departments were on site battling the fire. Flames could be seen at the top of the building as several trucks doused it in attempting to knock those flames down.
