ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Children are invited to scramble for colorful goodies Saturday during the city's yearly Easter egg hunt at the J.B. Martin Recreation Center.
Recreation Director Eric Gay said the hunt will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday and children need only show up.
"There's no pre-registration required. It's for boys and girls ages 1-12. There's no end time to it. When all the eggs are found, they collect the eggs and they can go," he said. "I think last year they were here a total of 25-30 minutes."
Gay added the event and those like it could not happen without support from community partners.
"I definitely want to say thank you to Unified Bank. They're the ones that sponsored this event for us, and we can't thank them enough for everything that they do for the city and especially for the (recreation) department. I talked to the Easter Bunny yesterday, and there's quite a few eggs that're going to be dropped out there, so we're just hoping it'll be a good day for everybody involved."
He also mentioned St. Clairsville High School.
"I would like to thank some of the St. Clairsville students. They're going to help with this," he said. It's just a great partnership."
He said the egg hunt is open to children regardless of residence.
"We're thankful that Unified Bank does what they do for us, and we have plenty of eggs. It's supposed to be a nice day, so a 10 a.m. start for whoever wants to show up," he said.
Gay said he hopes for a good turnout.
"Last year I remember it was rainy, it was cold, and we still had over 100 kids here," Gay said. "It's just something we're happy to put on. We always make ours the day before Easter so families are home and maybe some out-of-town people that have their kids, back into their home town, come and join us. It gives them an opportunity."
He noted the field will be divided into three different age groups with sections for children 1-4, those 5-8 and 9-12.
The recreation center is located at 102 Fair St.
