BELMONT -- Village Council recently voted to increase the number of hours worked by part-time employee for the spring and summer.
Board of Public Affairs President Ken Davis proposed the increase at a council meeting May 3, saying, "It's May, we have a lot to do."
Davis went on to say the employee could work four or five days a week instead of the three they have been working, with the understanding that if it is raining or they are otherwise caught up they would go home.
Councilwoman Lorie Grob made the motion to approve the proposal, saying they usually hire an extra part-time person for the summer.
Council President Derek Cain said they would revisit the matter in August as the motion passed unanimously.
Davis also informed council that with the rainy weather, village wells are still producing 100% of the water for village water customers and that they are still trying to find where storm water is infiltrating the sewage system.
Council also approved Davis's request that the village sell its old Ford Ranger truck.
Mayor Ron Woods updated council on a resident's complaint concerning water not draining properly around her house, saying that he, Davis and Cain had investigated the matter during a recent heavy rain and found that the excess water was due to guttering and drainage issues on the house and that village infrastructure was functioning properly there.
Woods also informed council that he had been very busy with mayor's court recently as Police Chief Andrew Miller had issued 11 tickets during the month of April while answering 20 calls to service and assisting outside of the village twice.
Woods said the recent meat and freezer raffle had profited roughly $1,300 for the police department.
Village Fiscal Officer Ricky Burkhead informed council that the "short" audit the village qualified for this year would only cost around $6,200 whereas the normal audits cost upwards of $16,000.
Council approved Burkhead's request to terminate a village credit card that still had a former water clerk's name on it and to have one issued for the new clerk.
Belmont Village Council meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Stanley Sobel Village Offices in the basement of the Belmont Gymnasium on Brown Street.
