Local pools open for Memorial Day weekend

PUBLIC POOLS across Eastern Ohio will open this Memorial Day weekend, and with the weather warming up and students finishing the school year many pool staff expect to see large crowds during the holiday.
Martins Ferry's pool will not be open in time for Memorial Day weekend due to maintenance. Mayor John Davies said the pool is getting its pump and filters replaced. He said the pump was expected to come in by Friday and the new filters recently arrived. Once all of the new parts are in, it will take some time to install them.
"I do not know when the pool will be open, but it should be in the near future," Davies said.
Once the Martins Ferry pool opens, children under the age of 4 can swim for free. Older children can swim for $1, adults can swim for $4 and seniors can swim for $2.
Allen Pool at Memorial Park in St. Clairsville will open Saturday, May 27. The pool will have a free swim on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Allen Pool features a corkscrew slide, diving board, concession stand and places to sunbathe and relax. The pool is open to the general public every day from noon to 6 p.m., weather permitting. Allen Pool is also open from 11 a.m. to noon for adults to swim laps.
Once the holiday weekend is over, children ages 2 and under can still enter the pool for free. Allen Pool will charge kids 3-17 years old $3 for all-day pool access, adults $5 and seniors $3. Allen Pool only accepts cash. Call 740-298-2787 for more information about Allen Pool.
Barnesville pool also will open this Saturday. It is open from noon to 6 p.m. General admission is free for children under 5, $3 for children and $4 for adults. Pool passes will also be for sale at the pool. For more information about the Barnesville pool, call 740-425-1172 or 740-425-3012.
City pools in Wheeling will not open until Saturday, June 3. This includes the pool on 36th Street, Garden Park Pool, Bridge Park Pool and Wheeling Heights Pool. For more information about Wheeling pools, call 304-234-3641.
