Summer library programs to begin

MARTINS FERRY — The Belmont County District Library system will host many activities to encourage both children and adults to keep their minds active over the summer.

The Belmont County District Library’s summer program starts in a few days. Both the adult summer reading program and the children’s reading program start June 12.

The theme for this year’s summer reading programs is “Find your voice.” The libraries have partnered with iREAD, a national nonprofit reading program designed by librarians.

The “Find your voice” program at Belmont County’s libraries will run from June 12 to July 21. This program will strive to empower readers of all ages to explore history, social justice and STEM — or science, technology, engineering and math – fields. The program’s goal is to help children and adults feel comfortable expressing themselves and celebrating their differences.

The libraries will also host Toddler Tales and Storytime for children this summer.

Toddler Tales is intended for children 6 to 24 months old and their caregivers. This program helps toddlers develop listening and interactive play. Toddler Tales will take place from June 15 through July 20 on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and noon at the Martins Ferry library. The program is also offered every Monday at the Shadyside library at 10 a.m., at the Bethesda library at 11 a.m. and at the Powhatan Point library at 2 p.m. The Victoria Read Library in Flushing will also host Toddler Tales at 11 a.m. on Thursdays.

Storytime introduces children ages 2 and older to classroom-style learning. Storytime takes place from June 13 to July 19 every Tuesday at 1 p.m. and every Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Martins Ferry library. Powhatan Point library and Victoria Read Library will host Storytime on Mondays at 11 a.m. Powhatan Point library will also have Storytime on Thursdays at 4 p.m. Shadyside library will host Storytime at 5 p.m. on Mondays and at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays. The program is also offered at the Bridgeport library at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. The Bethesda library has Storytime at 11 a.m. on Fridays.

The Martins Ferry Public Library will also host senior days one Friday a month. Those ages 55 and up can come to the library on June 9, July 7 and Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. for crafts and games.
