It appears that a good time was had by all who were fortunate enough to visit downtown Martins Ferry on Saturday afternoon and evening.

Abigail Carpino, left, and Madalynn Painter, both of whom will be juniors and cheerleaders at Martins Ferry High School in the fall, help Project Forward serve up strawberry shortcakes during the city’s annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday.

And Martins Ferry Lions Club members, from left, Michael Deleonardis, Shaye Deleonardis and Leygh-Ann Anderson grill burgers and hot dogs during the event. The festival, an old Purple City tradition that had been discontinued, was revived by Project Forward, a business district revitalization organization that formed in the wake of a 2016 fire that destroyed several businesses.
