Belmont County Spelling Bee champion Jacob Theaker takes part in the preliminary spelling rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. He correctly spelled “ubiquinone” in the first round but was eliminated in the word meaning round. He will remain in Washington for a few more days to participate in bee-related activities. His trip to the nation’s capital and the county bee are sponsored by The Times Leader, Belmont Savings Bank, Uniglobe Travel, Airport Limousine Service, Bordas & Bordas, Belmont College, Ohio River Valley Elks and the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center.
