Outdoor summer fun planned in St. Clairsville

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Summer events are still going strong in the city, with another outdoor concert set for this week and some fishing opportunities for young people.
Recreation Director Eric Gay said an event is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday in conjunction with the yearly summer concert series Thursday nights. All are welcome to the free concert.
“Belmont Savings Bank and the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce along with the rec department are having it. We call it the Keep it Cool Summerfest. Belmont Savings Bank was the main sponsor behind this,” he said.
The event will feature the band Radio Tokyo as the opener, while the band Let’s Groove Tonight will close out the festivities.
“We’re having the nation’s number one Earth, Wind and Fire tribute band as the closer,” he said. “It should be a really cool event. We’ll have a couple food vendors here, we’ll have some things for the kids here. It should be a good night. Both bands are awesome. Doors open at 5 p.m. It should be a good night and a good night of music.
“We’re just so thrilled. Belmont Savings Bank, they help us with a lot of things and they stepped up to sponsor this thing along with the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce,” Gay said. “We just want to utilize that amphitheater more. We think it’s such an awesome space down there. We just want to put on some big events.”
Another upcoming activity offered through the St. Clairsville Parks and Recreation Department is a catfish tournament starting at 6 p.m. Aug. 11-12 at the city reservoir.
“It’s an all-night event. We also have our kids junior angler fishing tournament. We did this last year. It was a big event,” Gay said.
The catfish tournament lasts until 6 a.m. Aug. 12 and registration is $15 for St. Clairsville residents and $20 for non-residents
The Junior Angler kids fishing tournament is 5-8 p.m. Aug. 14 at the reservoir.
“It costs $5 for the kids to enter the rec department,” he said, adding food will be provided. “It’s fun for the parents, fun for the kids. We have some prizes that we give away. We get kids interested in fishing.”
Gay said last year’s event saw more than 60 children participate.
“It’s a very fun event. It lasts for a couple hours,” he said. “It’s for kids ages 3-16.”
He said people may sign up online or the night of the event.
