WOODSFIELD -- The Woodsfield Police Department arrested two people Monday on multiple drug charges, according to the department's Facebook page.
According to the department's page, officers were alerted to a possible narcotics transaction at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Monday occurring on Home Avenue near the Monroe Memorial Park.
Once on scene, K9 Officer Jacob McNerney made contact with the vehicle described by the caller. McNerney observed that there were two occupants and allegedly detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.
A male occupant exited from the driver's side door of the vehicle, according to the department. When McNerney attempted to detain the male, the male suspect fled on foot.
McNerney deployed a taser but it was ineffective. K9 Tito was then deployed in an attempt to apprehend the suspect, who surrendered without further incident and was immediately brought into custody.
Upon further investigation, police identified the male suspect as Jordan Longwell, of Bellaire, and a female passenger was identified as Elsie Law, of Sistersville, West Virginia.
Police searched the vehicle and allegedly found a bulk amount of methamphetamine, a bulk amount of marijuana and a loaded handgun.
Longwell and Law were arrested and transported to the Monroe County Jail, where they are being held on the following charges:
Longwell faces charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs, aggravated possession of drugs(bulk), possession of drugs (bulk), resisting arrest, obstructing official business, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, having weapons under disability.
Law faces charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs, aggravated possession of drugs (bulk), possession of drugs(bulk), improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, having weapons under disability.
Beth Ann Rose, Monroe County Clerk of Courts, said that the two individuals are not yet scheduled to appear in court.
