Back in business
Bethesda Pizza Parlor reopens in new location
BETHESDA — A hometown favorite is officially back in business.
The Bethesda Pizza Parlor, a popular, decades-old shop in the village, reopened its doors at 4 p.m. Monday after being closed for several months due to failure of the floor at its former site on Main Street. Owner Kathi Little said the restaurant did more than $800 worth of business in its first hour at the new location — the former Bethesda Market & Carryout building at 226 Maple Ave.
Although Little has owned the business for 27 years, she is uncertain how old it actually is. She said she worked at the shop for several years before becoming the owner, and she estimated that it may have first opened around 1983.
Around 5 p.m. Monday, a steady stream of customers was coming and going from the store, picking up pizzas, hoagies and the parlor’s famous breadsticks. Little said she is offering carryout and delivery service for now, but dine-in service is planned for the future. She also hopes to add a lunchmeat and cheese counter where folks can pick up supplies for sandwiches and lunches, since the market that once was housed in the building was a go-to spot for those items for area residents.
Bethesda Village Administrator Dirk Davis said the opening was a welcome return, adding the village had lost some businesses in past years.
Hours of operation will be 4-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
