Kiwanis Club of Barnesville shows support for local Key Club

BARNESVILLE -- The Kiwanis Club of Barnesville recently raised enough money to cover the Key Club International dues for every member of Barnesville High School's Key Club.
"At the end of last year, I floated an idea to help Barnesville's Key Club by reaching out to local people, organizations and businesses to sponsor a Key Club member's International dues," Brock Rogers, president of the Kiwanis Club of Barnesville, said.
According to a press release from the Kiwanis Club of Barnesville: "Barnesville High School's Key Club, under the leadership of their advisor Corey Powell, has slowly and steadily grown over the years."
Rogers said the Key Club has grown to around 180 student members.
He said that Key Club International dues are almost $10 each year per student.
"The total cost adds up fast," he said.
The Kiwanis Club set up an online donation portal and reached out to members of the community asking for donations.
"We didn't know what the response would be, but knew that every dollar would help," Rogers said.
"The people of Barnesville knocked it out of the park. With the help of this fantastic town and the people who live here, we have raised enough money to cover every penny of Key Club International dues for every member of this year's Key Club," Rogers said.
The donations will help more students give back to the community.
"Anyone who lives here knows how wonderful Barnesville is and how willing we are to help each other out. But, I have to admit, I never imagined the community would step up quite like this. To everyone who donated, thank you. Thank you for your kind donations. Thank you for being part of this community. Thank you for helping make this community," Rogers said.
The Kiwanis Club recently teamed up with the Key Club to add a handicap accessible ramp to the Kiwanis Shelter in Barnesville Memorial Park.
Rogers said the Kiwanis Club of Barnesville has been serving the community for the past 75 years. He said the club is always looking for new members, and anyone interested can attend the club's weekly lunch meetings. The Kiwanis Club of Barnesville meets from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. every Monday at the Main Street Barrel House, located at 137 E. Main St.
Anyone interested in sponsoring a Key Club member can make an online donation at barnesvillekiwanis.org. Donors can also mail checks or cash to the Kiwanis Club of Barnesville at 60601 Rose Hill Road, Salesville, OH 43778. Checks must be made payable to the Kiwanis Club of Barnesville and include "Key Club Sponsor" in the memo section of the check.
