MARTINS FERRY -- The city of Martins Ferry started several street paving projects on Tuesday.
Crews are set to continue paving roads this week including Breitenstein Lane from Indiana Street to Zane Highway, Breitenstein Lane from Zane Highway to Broadway Street, Grant Avenue from 10th Street to Zane Highway, Grant Avenue from Zane Highway to Fourth Street, Ellett Street from Zane Highway to North Eighth Street and North Eighth Street from the 400 block to the cemetery entrance.
During Tuesday's paving, cones with no parking signs were placed on these streets, and the streets remained open to traffic during the project.
Mayor John Davies posted on Facebook that there will be no parking on these streets until the paving is completed. He said that anyone who parks on these streets will have their car towed at the owner's expense.
"Sorry for the inconvenience on these and adjoining streets for the parking but a week of inconvenience will give you a long time of enjoyable streets," he wrote.
Davies posted that the city's contract with the paving company, Cast and Baker, states that roads will continue to be open for traffic throughout the week.
"There will be some inconvenience, but for a couple of days inconvenience you will have a new road for years," Davies posted.
