One airlifted from crash on I-70 near Morristown Saturday

MORRISTOWN — Westbound traffic on Interstate 70 was stopped late Saturday afternoon as a patient was lifted from the scene of a serious accident.

At 3:26 p.m. Saturday, a local emergency official confirmed an accident had occurred on I-70 at about milepost 206, which is 2 miles west of the Belmont/Morristown exit. Cumberland Trail Fire District had sent an engine, squad and responders to the scene.

As of 3:27 p.m., an Ohio State Highway Patrol dispatcher said no portion of the highway had yet been closed, but she declined to comment on the crash noting that troopers were just arriving.

By 3:40 p.m., traffic was beginning to back up toward Belmont County Road 26 and a medical helicopter could be scene approaching the area. The helicopter landed in the westbound lanes of the interstate and, several minutes later, took off. It was carrying one patient, the energency official said.
