BARNESVILLE -- The Barnesville Board of Education accepted many donations and grants at its regular meeting Tuesday.
The school district received many grants this November from the Barnesville Area Education Foundation.
"Barnesville schools and its employees have benefited greatly from the Barnesville Area Education Foundation for years and the generous grant opportunities provided. Staff members are encouraged by the foundation bi-annually to apply for grants for purchases that provide enhancements within the classroom which may fall outside of the scope of the traditional budget," Superintendent Micah Fuchs said.
"The grants approved during this period provided purchases of iPad charging carts, a 3-D printer, as well as financial support for a class trip and the recently completed elementary school renovation project completed over the summer, just to name a few," he added.
The Barnesville Area Education Foundation awarded a total of $ 53,977.42 to the district last month.
The board also accepted the following donations made in November:
-- $20 from Adam Claugus for the elementary playground;
$1,000 from the Barnesville 200 Club to the athletic department to charter a bus to transport the football team;
$150 from Kari McGee for the middle school robotics team;
$500 from Little Rocks Football Boosters to the athletic department to charter a bus to transport the football team;
$500 from Shaheen Law Group LLC to the athletic department to charter a bus to transport the football team;
$500 from the Ohio Valley Cattlemen's Association for the high school FFA program;
$1,000 from the Goaliners for a new wrestling scoreboard;
$1,000 from the Barnesville 200 Club for a new wrestling scoreboard; and
$200 from Aaron and Angela Hannahs for new turf and lighting at Shamrock Stadium
All members of the board voted to accept the donations.
Fuchs said he was grateful for the community support.
In other news, Treasurer Adam Quirk recommended that the school board finalize a contract with Energy Optimizers USA LLC to make school facilities more energy efficient. According to the contract, the project will cost $2,201,450 for various lighting, mechanical equipment, controls and energy-saving improvements throughout the district.
Energy Optimizers presented information to the board at last month's meeting. The board unanimously voted to approve the contract.
Board members also all voted to hire Joyce Young as a substitute aide and substitute secretary for the 2023-24 school year, pending all required paperwork.
The board also unanimously voted to approve Joe Bell as a volunteer assistant bowling coach and Ashli Allen as a volunteer indoor track coach for the 2023-24 school year, pending all required paperwork.
The board renewed one-year contracts for Allen to serve as the junior high school track coach and for Justin Little to serve as the assistant high school girls' basketball coach.
The school board also voted to pay the state auditor's office $6,703.50 for audit services for 2024.
The board approved a payment of $5,689 to the Ohio School Boards Association for annual membership dues and virtual transportation supervisor services for 2024.
The board also approved paying the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center $4,000 for next year's services.
