BELLAIRE — Boy Scout Troop 212 in Shadyside is hosting a clothing drive to benefit members of the local community.
Donations are due by Dec. 10 and will be delivered to The House of the Carpenter in Wheeling.
Collection bins are set up at several local libraries including the Ohio County Public Library in Wheeling, Belmont County District Library in Martins Ferry, the Bridgeport Public Library and Shadyside Public Library.
A news release from the troop states, “The Boy Scouts of Troop 212 in Shadyside, Ohio believe that it is important to give back to our community.”
Donated clothing can be new or gently used, and anyone can participate by dropping off items in the marked bins. The troop accepts shirts, sweaters, hoodies, hats, gloves, jackets, coats, shoes, pants, shorts and socks.
“If you have any unwanted clothing items in your wardrobe that fit the criteria, we would love for you to drop them off in a donation bin at one of the featured locations,” the press release states.
The House of the Carpenter, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals and families in the Ohio Valley, will distribute the donations to people in need this winter season. The organization is affiliated with the West Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church.
According to the release, the Scouts will host another clothing drive from Jan. 2 to Feb. 2. For this effort, they hope to have donation bins in more locations.

According to the Boy Scouts of America’s website, “The BSA’s mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Our priority is to bring the benefits of Scouting to more youth while remaining true to our mission. While various activities and youth groups teach basic skills and promote teamwork, Scouting goes beyond that and encourages youth to achieve a deeper appreciation for service to others in their community.”
