Wheeling Health Right to show off renovations

WHEELING — Wheeling Health Right is inviting the public this week to come tour the Health Right clinic and see inside one of Wheeling’s “hidden gems.”

The past year has seen the free health clinic, located at 61-29th St. in South Wheeling, undergo renovation and expansion. Now Health Right wants to show off its upgraded facility.

The medical provider will host an open house from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, with a ribbon cutting set for 1:30 p.m, said Kathie Brown, executive director of Health Right.

“We will take people on tours to show the changes that have been made, and what is happening,” she said.

Health Right now has a third dental chair to help provide for more patients, Brown noted.

There is also a new drive-up window for patients wanting to pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy.

Elsewhere in the building, there is a new conference room with additional storage.

And areas that once had carpeted floors now have tiled floors that are easier to keep clean and disinfected — a lesson learned from COVID, Brown explained.

The Wheeling Health Right expansion had initially been expected to cost $300,000.

After the free clinic raised the first $120,000 needed for the work, the Ohio County Commission agreed in April 2021 to provide the remaining $180,000 needed for the project.

After this, Health Right received a donation for just over $8,000 from the Jeremy C. McCamic Family Foundation of Wheeling to assist in the building of its pharmacy drive-up. The foundation assists organizations with projects that help those with physical challenges.

Former U.S. Rep. David B. McKinley, R-W.Va., also requested and received $350,000 for Wheeling Health Right through the Community Project Funding initiative in Congress. The additional money allowed for “enhancements,” according to Brown.

“The public should come and see what services we provide to the community, and understand what we do,” she said. “We’re one of the best kept secrets in town. That’s not intentional, but people don’t often come (when they don’t need care.) We encourage them to come see it.”
