Suspects questioned after Monday shooting

STEUBENVILLE — City police have questioned two individuals in connection with a Monday afternoon shooting in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue that sent a juvenile to a Pittsburgh hospital, Chief Ken Anderson said.

The shooting was reported around 12:39 p.m.

Anderson said the two males, who have not been identified, were detained by Pittsburgh police “and officers from Steubenville responded there to speak with them and continue the investigation.”

“Based on our investigation, we were able to obtain a make, model and license plate of a vehicle involved in this incident,” Anderson said. “We passed the vehicle information on to law enforcement agencies in Ohio and surrounding states, along with a description of two male subjects who left the scene in that vehicle.”

Earlier, City Manager Jim Mavromatis had described it as “a very fluid situation because we’re looking for the people involved … multiple people were involved.”

The victim, who also has not been identified, was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. His condition is not known.

Monday’s shooting comes on the heels of a Jan. 26 shooting just one block away–in the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue — that left 18-year-old Ja’Zeric Birden dead and another 18-year-old, who has not been identified, hospitalized.
