Rue 21 is set to close all of its 540 stores

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — After a decade of serving customers at the Ohio Valley Mall, Rue 21 will be closing its doors.

The closure comes on the heels of the company filing for bankruptcy for the third time. It will be closing all 540 of its locations.

“So far we don’t have an official closing date,” Joe Bell, director of corporate communications for mall parent the Cafaro Co., said Tuesday. “That may depend on how quickly the store liquidates its merchandise.”

The Ohio Valley Mall location has already started its going-out-of-business liquidation sale by marking everything in the entire store 30-50% off.

“Our leasing executives are always talking with retailers, restaurateurs and other business owners who might benefit by establishing a presence at Ohio Valley Mall. I’m sure the current Rue 21 space would be very attractive to many merchants,” Bell said when speaking on what the future holds for the soon to be former Rue 21 location.
