JACOBSBURG — The second annual Summer Fest is coming to Jacobsburg on Saturday.

The event will take place at 63279 Tar Run Road in Jacobsburg. It is for people 18 and older to attend with an entry fee of $25 if tickets are purchased in advance or $30 on the day of the event.

It is an all-day event with the first act starting at noon. Artists appearing at the show range from Ohio Valley natives to national acts. Louie the XIII, Chasing Rabbits, Metaterrestrial, Energy with Erica, Loose Bean, Nirdaworks, Spot, Mixer Sis, The Council and local comedian Mike Usenick will all be performing.

Louie the XIII whose real name is Louie Balk, is not only performing but is also the event’s organizer.

“Essentially it was just natural how it all came together. My dad is the vice president of the Sentinels (Motorcycle Club), and their clubhouse grounds are where we host the event,”

Balk said. “I was looking for a place to play music, and everywhere is either a bar or a smaller enclosed space so it’s been such a blessing to have these grounds presented.”

Balk and his father, Louis Balk, had been brainstorming the idea of having a music event at the Sentinels’ clubhouse grounds for years before they were able to make Summer Fest a reality for the first time last year.

“All of the stars aligned to be able to have this festival come together with all of my best friends, my wife and people I have been networking with from all over the country for years,” he said.

Balk’s wife, Erica Balk, is also performing at the festival under the name Energy with Erica.

Balk said he is expecting people from all over the country and from Canada to be in attendance at Saturday’s Summer Fest.

“I have people coming in from Canada, Detroit, Rochester/ Last year we had people fly in from Cali (California). We have a fire performer coming from Florida, people coming in from Morgantown. It’s really cool to bring all of those different scenes to the Ohio Valley,” he said.

Balk’s production company is called OVDJ. It includes a collection of like-minded electronic DJs whose goal is creative audio and production through artistic expression in art and music. In addition to Summer Fest, OVDJ regularly hosts events and concerts around the Ohio Valley. Balk said that OVDJ usually hosts one show a month at various venues and locations.

“OVDJ has a schedule where we’re putting on a show once a month. The next big thing that we have in our scope is Harvest Fest in September, and then we’ll be at the Waterfront Hall on November 1. That’s going to be wicked awesome. That’s going to be called Soundwaves 2,” Balk said.

He noted that OVDJ is also planning a New Year’s Eve event, although details have not yet been announced. He said he plans to make the event the biggest party in the Ohio Valley.

“I feel like New Year’s Eve kind of gets swept under the rug around here. A lot of people have to travel or do something extravagantly expensive to have a good time. So this year you can party with Ohio Valley DJs and experience great production and great vibes while not busting your wallet at the same time,” Balk added.
