Bellaire village administrator resigns at meeting

BELLAIRE — Village Administrator Frank Shaffer announced his resignation from the position at the Thursday evening council meeting.

Shaffer read his letter of resignation while council members listened to his reasoning.

“I would like to thank all of you for the opportunity to be the village administrator for the village of Bellaire,” he said. “In the brief time I have been working with the village, my time was spent looking at a variety of village issues that are holding back progress.”

Shaffer expressed his gratitude for council allowing him to be the village administrator for seven months but noted he felt the job was not right for him. He further expressed that he has outlined issues at previous meetings that are “in his opinion” the most pressing items, but council members had different opinions.

Shaffer said he had made recommendations for solutions to issues but added that his perspective differs immensely from that of the council members.

He said council should utilize the lists he created and find someone who is more in line with the perspective the council desires. He believes that would be in the best interest of the community.

Shaffer believes the best results will be achieved if council collaborates with village employees to resolve pressing issues.

“The employees are your most valuable asset, and I have spent a lot of time and effort working with them to improve relationships,” he said. “I do feel in my heart that I have been honest and forthcoming with every suggestion and recommendation made.”

He ended with wishing the village of Bellaire the best.

Police Chief J.J. Watson said the house on the vacant property on 2300 W. 23rd St. that caught fire is a total loss. With the homeowner’s next of kin, his mother, deceased as well, Watson said the charred house is going to remain at its location for now until the village is able to take care of it and get it down.

He also mentioned a structure at 3307 Monroe St. is now demolished with only a little bit more to clean up until that project is complete.

Bellaire Police Department also hired a new part-time officer, Patrolman Kevin James, on July 15.

Currently, the village is gathering information to build an amphitheater, which would include a pickleball court.
