The Bellaire Big Reds get a feel for the new lighting on Nelson Field as the lights are tested on Aug. 14. According to Dan Frizzi, a local historian who shared this image taken from Greenwood Cemetery on Facebook, the site served as a slaughterhouse and brick yard before becoming a football field named for former school superintendent J.V. Nelson in 1934. The Big Reds’ first game under the lights kicks off at 7 p.m. today against the Buckeye Local Panthers.
