According to Sheriff David Lucas, the 911 center received a call from Rural King at the Ohio Valley Mall stating that two men had left the store in a vehicle loaded with more than $3,000 in stolen tools.
Lucas said a St. Clairsvllle police officer was the first responder to spot the car and began to pursue it on Interstate 70 west. The pursuit reached speeds up to 100 mph with the suspects ultimately leaving the interstate, traveling on other local roads and returning to I-70 west before losing control of the vehicle at about milepost 211. Lucas said both men then exited the car and fled from police on foot. One of the suspects was apprehended quickly by an Ohio State Highhway Patrol trooper.
A reverse 911 message was sent to residents living in the area of the former Jamboree In The Hills site and, around 10:30 p.m., a resident called to report a suspect had been spotted near the former concert venue. When officers arrived in the area, Lucas said, the man fled to the north side of U.S. 40 and into a wooded area. Police set up a perimeter and were able to capture the suspect.
Lucas said all of the stolen goods were re covered from the abandoned vehicle.
Byron T. Carner, 33, of Cleveland and Todd D. Williams, 35, of Bedford, Ohio, both were jailed on charges of theft and failure to comply.
