Woman arrested in police assault
Nina Nicole Mills
BELLAIRE — A woman in Bellaire allegedly clawed at a police officer’s face, attempting to gouge his eyes out, and spit on him before being arrested.
Bellaire Police Department took Nina Nicole Mills, 35, no address listed, into custody on two counts of assault on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest.
The police department received reports Tuesday of a woman in the roadway at Ohio 149 and 26th Street trying to stop cars, according to Police Chief J.J. Watson. Once officers arrived, Mills allegedly ran toward the police car, opened the driver’s side door and began to hit the officer while he was still in the driver’s seat. The officer reportedly exited the vehicle and got Mills away from the car.
Upon noticing a second officer, Mills allegedly lunged toward that officer, clawing at his face with her fingernails and attempting to gouge his eyes out while she spit on him, police said.
Watson said the officers got Mills under control and placed her in handcuffs. Both the officer who was clawed at and Mills were taken to East Ohio Regional Hospital for medical treatment. The officer was released from the hospital with facial injuries.
Mills is being held at the Belmont County Jail on charges of resisting arrest and two counts of assault on a police officer.
Watson said neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as factors in the incident. He also said Mills seemed to just dislike the officer and launched an unprovoked attack.
The Belmont County Jail roster states that Mills is charged with three counts of assault on a police officer, with bond amounts listed at $15,000, $5,000 and $10,000. She also is charged with resisting arrest with bond set at $2,500.
