Media partners help get word out on Wellness Weekend

WHEELING — The Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine brings hundreds to downtown Wheeling annually for two days of fun and physical fitness.

And what better way to liven up the party than by making sure as many people know about it as possible?

The multiple media partners for the weekend — WTRF-TV, iHeart Radio and Lamar Advertising — have spent the last few months getting the word out about the event, and they will definitely spend the next few weeks letting as any people as possible know what’s on the way.

Registration is available for all the events of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine, to be held Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, May 25. Those interested can visit ogdenwellnessweekend.com.

WTRF will be integral both before and during the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine. Not only will the station continue previewing the weekend’s events, but WTRF personalities will be highly visible in several places during the weekend.

“The station is honored to be part of this meaningful tradition that brings people together of all ages,” WTRF News Director Keri Brown said. “We are airing stories about the marathon races and events and how people can get involved in our newscasts and at wtrf.com.

“You’ll see many familiar WTRF faces throughout the weekend, with our anchors, reporters, and staff volunteering and participating in the festivities. There is something for everyone and we invite the community to join us for this fun-filled weekend.”

Jim Dodrill, vice president and general manager of WTRF-TV and WBOY-TV, said WTRF was proud to once again be a significant part of the weekend.

The various iHeart Radio stations in the Ohio Valley also will be doing their part in keeping listeners informed and updated. The roster of stations in Wheeling include, on the FM dial, 98.7 WOVK, KISS 95.7, EAGLE 107.5 and Mix 97.3 and, on the AM dial, News Radio 1170 WWVA and Fox Sports Wheeling 1400.

And while WTRF will handle the television coverage and iHeartMedia Wheeling will promote the event over the radio airwaves, Lamar Advertising will provide eye-catching billboards showcasing the weekend for motorists throughout the region.

The weekend begins Saturday, May 24, with the 46th running of the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic. The Half Marathon Run is scheduled for a 7:15 a.m. start, with the Half Marathon Walk following at 7:30 a.m. The weekend’s 5K Run presented by WVU Medicine Children’s will start at 7:45 a.m. May 24, with the 5K Walk, also presented by WVU Medicine Children’s starting at 7:50 a.m. For the youngsters, there will be a Fun Run at 8:30 a.m. May 25 and a Tiny Tot Trot at 10:30 a.m., both presented by WVU Medicine. And new this year will be Rovers On The River presented by Play N Stay Pet Camp, which allows dogs and their owners to join the fun at noon.

The Tough As Nails Urban Challenge presented by The Health Plan gets rolling Sunday, but the Wheeling Heritage Trail Bike Tour will open the fun that morning, offering cyclists trails of 100 km, 50 km and 15 km to ride. The 100 km ride begins at 7:30 a.m., with the 50 km ride following at 8:30 a.m. and the 15 km ride going at 9 a.m.
