Motorcyclists to ‘Run for the Wall’ through Belmont County once more
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Belmont County Tourism and St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159 will welcome veteran motorcyclists from the Run for the Wall again this Memorial Day weekend.
The Run for the Wall motorcycle ride will make its way to Belmont County on Sunday. County residents and visitors are invited to welcome the motorcyclists as they are escorted off Interstate 470 at Banfield Road to the Ohio Valley Mall.
Their expected arrival time is about 6:15 p.m. Sunday. Recommended places to watch would be near Ferguson’s House of Furniture or Valvoline Express Care. There will be approximately 350 bikers participating in Run for the Wall, Wall2Wall Sandbox Route.
Events associated with the traveling group include the Run for the Wall Motorcyclists Welcome Dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday at the former Macy’s location at the Ohio Valley Mall. That event is not open to the public, but mall shoppers will notice their presence.
The following morning, the community is invited to attend a Memorial Day Ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Monday in front of the Belmont County Courthouse, 101 W. Main St. in St. Clairsville. The veterans’ motorcycling organization, Run For The Wall, will be departing Belmont County after the ceremony to continue their journey from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall to the Middle East Conflicts Wall in Marseilles, Illinois.
The ceremony will feature a welcome from county Commissioner Jerry Echemann, music from the St. Clairsville High School Band, a firing squad salute and comments from American Legion Post 159. The riders will depart downtown St. Clairsville by 8:35 a.m.
“Plan to arrive early and welcome the riders on Main Street,” Tourism Director Jackee Pugh advised. “Parking behind the courthouse is encouraged, as parts of Main Street will be temporarily closed during the ceremony.”
Run for the Wall’s mission is to promote healing among all military veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all prisoners of war and those missing in action, to honor the memory of those killed in action from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world.
