Workforce and community education classes offered at Belmont College this summer

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Workforce Development and Community Education Department at Belmont College is offering class options for those seeking specialized skills during the coming summer term.

All classes will be held at the Belmont College Main Campus location in St. Clairsville.

Drone Piloting classes will be offered from 5:30-8 p.m. on Tuesdays starting June 3 through Aug. 5. This self-paced course, accredited by the Unmanned Safety Institute, is the stepping-stone needed toward achieving the Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, a critical credential for anyone looking to navigate the skies professionally. “Whether you’re aiming to enhance your career in aerial photography, inspection, surveillance, or mapping, our course equips you with the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the FAA Part 107 exam,” the college states in a release.

USI Safety Certifications are industry recognized, best in class credentials for signifying professionalism, experience, aviation-based education, safety and competency for organizations and individuals. Students must have a high school diploma or GED in order to enroll.

Additionally, a seven-week Welding Basics course will be offered this summer. Participants will gain knowledge of welding processes, welding testing, metal fabrication processes and more. Classes will be offered from 5-8 p.m. beginning July 1 through August 15 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays. Tools included with the class include helmet, cap, bag, gloves and jacket.

The cost of this course may be covered for Ohio residents by the college’s talent ready grant. Limited funding is available. Contact Belmont’s Financial Aid Office at 740-695-8510 for details.

“Welding is one of humanity’s oldest industrial arts, but it’s evolving faster than ever,” said Jeremy Morris, grant writer and Workforce Development Education coordinator. “From robotic arms on factory floors to AI-enhanced inspection tools, today’s welders are as likely to program a machine as pick up a torch. The welding program at Belmont College prepares students for the ground floor of exciting opportunities in this rapidly changing field.”
