ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Belmont County Hoof and Paw plans to “Raise the Woof” on Saturday at the James E. Carnes Center to help fund the organization.
Belmont County Hoof and Paw Humane Officer Julie Larish said this is the second consecutive year the organization has hosted the fundraising event. All the money raised will be going to care for the dogs in Hoof and Paw’s possession.
“We have over 30 dogs, and it will cover their food and their vet bills. Right now, we are fixing every dog in our care so that when they leave our facility, they’re already fixed so we won’t have to worry about repopulation,” Larish said. “We currently have five puppies that the money will be going to help with their health care. They require some special health care because of the situation they’re in. So all the money goes to … the care of the dogs”.
She added that the event will have six bands playing music starting at noon. In addition to those six bands, a car show will be taking place from noon to 4 p.m.
White Collar Criminal, 7 South, Flushed, Dad Bods, Bed Rock and Bad Boy Boogie will be supplying the music all night long.
“A lot of bands have called us. We had over 12 bands call us to get in on it this year. Unfortunately, we only had six slots available, so we had to take the six bands that were the first ones to contact us,” Larish said. “We plan on doing it every year. Last year was not as successful as we’d like, but we have already exceeded our ticket sales. So we’re hoping that this year is going to be ten times better, and we hope each year it grows.
“It’s something new for the valley. It’s putting our own local bands on the stage instead of bringing in outside bands, and I think it’s good for the valley as a whole.”
The event will also have a car, bike and truck show with various unique categories.
“We have some categories like ‘the best chick magnet.’ We’re going with the theme of our Redneck Olympics. We have most likely to be found alongside the road, people’s choice, best to show, second worst car of the show, most likely to be in a police pursuit, and road kill king,” she said. “We have some plaques and wreaths for the winners, so there’s various awards for each one.”
The event will also have children’s games from 1-4 p.m. and then will have an area set up for a cornhole tournament, as well as a tic tac toe tournament.
Larish added that she is anticipating beer pong tables being set up as well.
“We have a beer truck coming from Muxie’s and two food trucks, and a dessert table. In addition to that, we have, um, a special thing going on called the Redneck Olympics where people can actually compete in some fun games,” she said.
She added that the Redneck Olympics will have a triathlon where the participants will use a stick pony, a tricycle, and join a three-legged race.
Larish added that the vehicles can be signed up for the car show at 10 a.m. Saturday and will have to pay a $10 admission fee. She encourages people wanting to attend to purchase the $25 admission tickets before the event and said that they can message the Belmont County Hoof and Paw’s Facebook page or call her at 610-314-5203 to obtain them.
