Motion filed to revoke former Shadyside village council member Nick Ferrelli’s bond

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Citing alleged violations of his bond terms, Belmont County Eastern Division Court Prosecutor Joshua Norman filed a motion to revoke the bond of former Shadyside Village Council member Nick Ferrelli.

Ferrelli, recently charged with menacing by stalking in connection with a village employee, was in Eastern Division Court on Thursday morning for a first-stage hearing regarding bond revocation. Norman said he recently was made aware that Ferrelli may have violated the conditions of his bond.

“One of the terms is no contact with the alleged victim in the case, and he is alleged to have violated that term,” Norman said.

Norman said the first-stage hearing was to file the motion to revoke Ferrelli’s bond.

The second-stage hearing will take place at 11 a.m. July 31 in Eastern Division Court in front of Judge David Trouten.

Norman said the second-stage hearing will be a full evidentiary hearing.

It will include testimony from potential witnesses and possibly testimony from the victim about Ferrelli’s alleged bond violation.

He added that after the evidence is provided and testimony is heard, the judge will decide whether Ferrelli’s bond will be revoked.

Following that July 31 hearing, a jury trial is planned to begin at 8 a.m. Aug. 18. Ferrelli waived his right to a speedy trial in May.

In December 2023, Ferrelli stepped down after serving six years on council. In August 2024, village council hired Michael Shaheen of Shaheen Law Group as outside counsel in a closed-door meeting but refused to comment on why Shaheen was being retained.

Once Ferrelli was charged in April, Shadyside Police Chief Don Collette confirmed that Shaheen had been hired to handle the case against Ferrelli. Former village solicitor Thomas Ryncarz had a conflict of interest after serving the village at the same time as Ferrelli, Collette said.

Despite the charges against him, Ferrelli is running for mayor of Shadyside in the upcoming Nov. 4 election. He declined comment on his criminal case.

Ferrelli’s attorney, Ted Tsoras, did not respond to a request for comment.
