BELLAIRE — A major water main break Wednesday left the entire village of Bellaire without water, according to Bellaire Mayor Ed Marling.

Marling estimated Wednesday afternoon that water would be restored to the village by 10 p.m. Wednesday.

“We’re getting ready to start opening up the valves and shutting the bar headers off,” he said Wednesday. “If things go right, because they’ll have to go back and bleed some of the lines to get the dirt out. So, we’ll get all that stuff out by tomorrow morning.”

Once the pipe is up and running, he will order a 48-hour boiling order to ensure the safety of the residents.

Marling said he received a call at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday that a break at the intersection of 31st and Hamilton streets left the village without running water. Village employees were installing new joint at the site of the break Wednesday afternoon.

“They cut about a six-foot joint out and are putting the coupling in now. Then we’re going to start filling the tank up,” Marling said. “Once we get that done, we’ll be ready to run.”

He added that the village had to shut off the water to the village to keep the pressure off of it.

“Once they got the pressure off, they were able to go in, and they found a spot where it had blown,” he said.

The Belmont County EMA had a water tank set up at the Bellaire Fire Department at 2450 Belmont St. Residents were asked to bring clean, potable water containers to be filled.
