ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont County Courthouse made a cameo appearance in an episode of an HBO comedy series.

A new HBO original offbeat comedy series “The Chair Company” briefly showed a picture of the courthouse hanging on the wall roughly 9 minutes, 24 seconds into the third episode of the inaugural season.

The episode, titled “@BrownDerbyHistoricVids Little bit of Hollywood? Okayyy,” sees show creator and star Tim Robinson walking past the picture. The show sees Ron Trosper, played by Robinson, attempt to prove a conspiracy theory following an off-putting incident at his place of work.

Belmont County Tourism Council executive director Jackee Pugh said that she was unaware of a picture of the courthouse being shown in the series but is excited to see the county get showcased.

“It’s always so exciting when Belmont County gets focused on a bigger stage,” Pugh said. “And what a cool opportunity that it was included in this HBO show for everyone to see across the nation.”

The Chair Company is set in Ohio, but was filmed in New York.

Belmont County Commissioner J.P. Dutton was also unaware of the courthouse being showcased.

When asked if the county was reached out to about the show using the picture he said that as long as they’re not shooting on property permission is not needed for the courthouse’s likeness to be used in any form.

It is unclear why or how “The Chair Company” decided on displaying the courthouse in its series but is a reminder that despite being over 2,000 miles away from Hollywood, the Ohio Valley has ties to the big screen.

HBO recently showcased the Ohio Valley in another hit series in 2023. Interstate 470 and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge that spans the Ohio River at Wheeling were featured on the fourth episode of Season One of “The Last of Us,” coming at 8 minutes, 2 seconds in.

Just this past May, the upcoming “Prison Break” reboot filmed in various locations around Wheeling and Moundsville. In 2017 the Hulu original series “Castle Rock” was filmed at the West Virginia Penitentiary located in Moundsville. Also in 2010 the village of Bellaire’s Great Stone Viaduct train bridge was a focal point in the film “Unstoppable.”
