Stitches and snaps

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery will present She Stitches, He Snaps: A Couple’s Creative Journey, an exhibit featuring the artistic talents of Cindy and Richard W. Greenlee.

The exhibit brings together Cindy Greenlee’s handmade quilts and wall hangings with Rich Greenlee’s landscapes and nature photography, offering a creative dialogue between fiber and lens. Cindy’s love of sewing began early, watching her mother make clothes for a family of five children. She made her first quilt at 25, and over the past 45 years, she has created nearly 75 quilts, most celebrating friends, family and special occasions. Now retired after serving the community as a nurse practitioner for many years, she is exploring new projects, including quilted coats and other creations using vintage quilt pieces.

Richard W. Greenlee, a valued member of the Ohio University community since 1990, is a seasoned academic leader and social work educator. He has served in key leadership roles including interim dean of Ohio University Zanesville, associate provost for Appalachian access and enrichment programs, and chair of the Department of Social Work.

Since retiring as Ohio University Eastern dean 12 years ago, Greenlee has pursued his passion for nature photography. His work captures the landscapes and the wildlife living and thriving across the 358-acre Ohio University Eastern campus, the Ohio Valley and beyond.

All proceeds from the exhibit will benefit the Patrick Wesley Murphy Memorial Scholarship, established by the Greenlees in memory of their grandson, Patrick Wesley Murphy, who died at age 2 in 2017. The scholarship supports social work students at Ohio University, helping them achieve their degrees and make a lasting impact in their communities. Contributions are welcome to expand the scholarship’s reach.

Experience the beauty of handcrafted quilts and the serenity of nature photography at She Stitches, He Snaps, a showcase of a couple’s lifelong creativity and commitment to community.

The show will run Oct. 13-Dec. 12 with gallery hours 8 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. A special gallery reception will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 22. For more information, visit ohio.edu/eastern/art-gallery.
