Martins Ferry Schools, JVS on ‘soft lockdown’ following online threat

Martins Ferry Schools and the Belmont County JVS are both on a “soft lockdown” following an online threat, Martins Ferry Schools Superintendent Jim Fogle said Thursday.

In a social media post, Fogle said the JVS notified the school district that a threat was made on social media toward the JVS that included Martins Ferry Schools. Because of that, the district implemented a Level 1/”soft” lockdown.

No one will be permitted to enter or exit the buildings. Dismissal schedules will remain the same and schools will dismiss at the usual times Thursday. Martins Ferry Police have an increased presence on campus and the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Fogle said updates will be provided when available.
