BARNESVILLE — The WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital Auxiliary recently helped purchase two bariatric tables for the hospital’s rehabilitation department.

“Barnesville Hospital and the Rehabilitation Department are incredibly grateful to the Auxiliary for generously purchasing our new high/low rehabilitation tables,” Jason Florence, WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital director of rehabilitation, said. “Their commitment to our patients helps us deliver safer, more efficient, and compassionate care. Their investment will greatly improve quality of care and patient outcomes every single day.”

The Barnesville Hospital Auxiliary has been a part of the organization since its inception in 1941. Twigs, the working units of the Hospital Auxiliary, began their work in March 1941. By 1954, the Twigs had grown to more than 1,000 women. They were instrumental in obtaining funds for the 1954 addition to Barnesville Hospital.

The first Twig donation was 25 jelly glasses from a 4-H Club in 1941. In total, the Twigs raised $36,585 for the new building fund. This building is the portion visible from West Main Street, excluding the Solarium.

Today’s Barnesville Hospital Auxiliary is composed of two Twigs and individual Leaf members who provide financial support to the hospital. Officers include Linda Perkins, co-president; Delores Wells, co-president; Carol Crooks, vice president and corresponding secretary; Paulette Sawvel, treasurer; and Cindy Ferguson, secretary. All funds raised by the Barnesville Hospital Auxiliary are used specifically for Barnesville Hospital.
