Bridgeport is looking to fill 3 vacant council seats
BRIDGEPORT — Mayor Norma Teasdale is informing residents that three seats of village council will be vacant as we enter into the new year.
Bob Bennington, Dory Dunkle and Ben Lentz’s terms will come to an end on Dec. 31 leaving those seats up for the taking.
Teasdale said that if residents are interested in filling those positions to submit a letter of interest by Jan. 16 at 3 p.m.
She added that the letter of interest must state the resident’s name, address, phone number and reasons for wanting to serve.
Applicants must be 18 years or older, Bridgeport village residents, qualified voters, U.S. citizens and cannot hold other public offices except volunteer firefighters without additional pay.
After the Jan. 16 deadline, council will then review applications on Jan. 20.
Teasdale said that if no one is chosen, after Jan. 20, she will then make the final decision by appointing three interested parties in filling those seats on council.
Councilman David Holmes’ term was also up but he ran again during the November election and was uncontested.
Teasdale said the interested parties may send a letter to the Mayor’s office at 301 main street or just stop by and drop it off.
“We’re interested in finding people that are interested in serving the community,” Teasdale said.
She added that she’s encouraging residents who are interested in serving on council to apply and believes that the village deserves the best council members to help run the village.
