Virginia man arraigned on murder charge connected to Jan. 15 shooting in Bellaire
BELLAIRE — A Virginia native was arraigned Tuesday on murder charges in Belmont County Eastern Division Court stemming from a Jan. 15 shooting death in Bellaire.
Sandton Browder, 23, appeared in front of Eastern Division Judge David Trouten via Zoom.
Bond is currently set at $3,000,000 with the following requirements: Browder must be of good behavior and have no violation of law; attend all future court appearances; have no intentional contact or communication with anyone involved in this case; and shall not own or possess any firearms.
Trouten then set a preliminary hearing for Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. in Eastern Division Court.
The State of Ohio appeared on Tuesday via Belmont County Prosecutor Kevin Flanagan and Browder will now be represented by a public defender moving forward.
A $25 application fee is assessed and a financial investigation is ordered for Browder.
No plea has been entered as the alleged offense is a felony level offense.
The victim’s name has not yet been released, but Bellaire Police Chief J.J. Watson had earlier said the man was 24 years old. Watson said police were called to the home around 7 p.m. Jan. 15 after a woman who lived there called 911 reporting gunfire in the home.
