Colerain Volunteer Fire Department, Martins Ferry Volunteer Fire Department, Wolfhurst Volunteer Fire Department, Brookside Volunteer Fire Department, Barton Volunteer Fire Department and the Salvation Army Canteen were on the scene to combat the flames.

Colerain Firefighter Ty Wilson said that his department received a call of a possible fire due to smoke in the area. He said that the units arrived within 10 minutes and located the residence that was on fire.

“There were no injuries, the occupants were all accounted for. Nobody was home at the time of the fire,” Wilson said. “The house is completely gutted; it’ll be a total loss at this point.”

He added that where the fire started and what caused it is still under investigation.

“We were there for a few hours until an investigator arrived,” Wilson said. “We had everything under control as possible before that. But, we did wait for the Fire Marshal’s Office to come down and take some notes. But we were there for about four hours, all in total.”

He added that the crews worked the entire time they were there but had the fire under control roughly an hour after arriving.

“After that, it was just looking for hot spots and waiting for an investigator unit,” Wilson said.
