ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The teenager accused of calling in bomb threats to several local businesses this week was arraigned on $1 million bond Thursday in Belmont County Eastern Division Court.

Larry Allen Harvey, 18, appeared before Judge David Trouten via a live video feed at the Belmont County Jail. Trouten set a preliminary hearing for Harvey for 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Harvey is charged with five counts of making terroristic threats and eight counts of inducing panic after allegedly threatening to detonate bombs at Walmart, Sheetz, Kroger, Whiteside Auto, Unified Bank, Texas Roadhouse, Denny’s and Red Roof Inn in St. Clairsville.

During the calls, Harvey allegedly demanded money and threatened to blow up the businesses if he did not get the cash.

Upon his arrest at a local hotel he allegedly told investigating officers that he made the calls to see what would happen.

During the hearing, Trouten asked Harvey a few questions about his education, living situation and employment. Harvey said he has been living in a hotel for seven months with his father and stepmother. He said he is originally from the region.

“I don’t have a normal home. … I’ve never actually been to an actual school. I’ve been in school through facilities. I started a GED but never finished it,” he said. “When I was a juvenile, I was hopping around from facilities in West Virginia to Georgia to Arkansas.”

Harvey said he started working at a McDonald’s but he didn’t know if he still had the job. He said his stepmother is employed at a steakhouse.

Trouten appointed Harvey a public defender, Cole Antolak, to act as his lawyer.

The first bomb threat was received by Walmart at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Richland Township Police Department responded and the store was evacuated. Following that call additional calls were received by the other businesses prompting more evacuations.

Belmont County Sheriff James Zusack said previously that one person, who was running out of Kroger during the threat, was injured after being struck by a car.

In addition to the Belmont County Sheriff’s Department and Richland Township Police Department, the St. Clairsville Police Department, Cumberland Trail Fire Department, Wheeling Police Department K-9 units and the Ohio State Highway Patrol all responded to the scenes.
