ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Ohio Valley Mall soon will have a new coffee shop.

Black Moon Coffee will open in the former Subway location, which most recently housed Holey Rollers Donut Shop.

Black Moon Coffee will be locally owned and operated.

Owner Ahmed Shaben said the shop will offer hot and cold coffee, teas, espressos and lattes, along with smoothies and frozen blended coffees in a variety of flavors.

He added the business also will serve acai bowls, waffles and crepes with Nutella or cream cheese.

Shaben also owns Bubbleworld in the mall, which serves desserts and boba tea.

He said that while operating Bubbleworld, he noticed shoppers frequently looking for coffee options.

“I spend most of my time looking at the people who are looking for coffee, especially in St. Clairsville,” Shaben said. “I want to expand my business so this was a very good idea to add and see how it’s gonna work.”

Candi Noble-Greathouse, marketing director for the Ohio Valley Mall, said mall officials are excited to once again have a coffee shop at the facility.

She said Wheeling Coffee Shoppe previously operated a coffee kiosk at the mall in the early 2000s before Starbucks opened a location there in the late 2000s and later left the mall. Since Starbucks closed, shoppers and employees have gone years without a coffee shop inside the mall.

“We’re very excited to have coffee back in the mall. And it looks like they will have a lot of great offerings for the coffee lovers and for your sweet tooth,” Noble-Greathouse said. “It’s just so exciting to have coffee back, we already have a lot of shoppers who are excited about that and definitely the employees in our stores who are excited to start their morning with a great cup of coffee.”

Despite only recently announcing the business, Shaben said Black Moon Coffee plans to hold a soft opening early next week.

He added there currently is no social media presence or website for the shop, but work is underway to establish an online presence for the business.
