‘Social Media incident’ triggers lockdown at St. Clairsville Schools

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – St. Clairsville-Richland City Schools were placed on a code yellow lockdown on Friday due to a “social media incident.”

“We had a social media issue that was brought to our attention early this morning. As soon as we received notification, we went into a code yellow lockdown while the investigation was conducted,” Superintendent Christina Laudermilt said. “A student had seen something on Snapchat, and we wanted to investigate it, so we went into code yellow until we had an opportunity to investigate the source of the information.”

Laudermilt added that due to the student being a minor, she couldn’t provide much detail about the incident.

“I can’t go into great detail because they’re juveniles,” she said. “But it was just someone who had posted allegations on social media. We wanted to verify the information before moving forward.”

Laudermilt confirmed that the issue has since been resolved.

Additionally, she said that new information about the April 10 bomb threat came to light during the investigation.

“Through additional details we gained today, we were able to resolve that issue as well,” Laudermilt said. “Although the incidents were separate, both juveniles have been transported to the Sargus Juvenile Detention Center. We were able to bring closure to both of these events today, which is really encouraging for us.”
