BARTON - Barton Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting its 32nd annual Barton Polkafest on Sunday.
The festival is the department’s largest fundraiser for the year and will take place at the Firemen’s Field at 52176 Barton- Blaine Rd. in Barton with organizers asking attendees to use St. Clairsville as the city if they use a GPS device.
"Polish music will fill the air along with Polish foods, barbecued chicken, and many other homemade Polish dishes," as stated in the department's press release.
Gates will open at 11 a.m. with non-stop music from noon to 8pm.
The live bands will play the newest and best sounds of polka’s, waltz’s and oberek’s for attendees to dance and listen to.
This event once again has free admission with music being provided by Polka Family, Dynaversasticktoneaires, Eddie Biegaj and the Crusade.
Four time Grammy nominated “Polka Family” will be returning again this year by popular demand.
Led by Hank Guzevich, the band started in 1979 as his parents, brothers and sister decided to put their music talent together starting in California.
They became a hit and because of the demand for playing at festivals and events, they decided to move to Pennsylvania so they could play more festivals on the Eastern Coast where polka music is more popular.
Dynaversasticktoneaires may be a mouthful but there is great meaning behind the lengthy title. This band is made up of six young, talented, polka musicians who have grown up jamming, sitting in, and even playing with some of the best polka bands in the country. They have learned from the best and now have decided to give it a shot on their own. Coming from the state of Indiana for their first appearance at Barton.
From Pennsylvania International Polka Association Hall of Fame Inductee Eddie Biegaj will perform with his band “Crusade”.
Eddie has spent 40 years performing polka, jazz combos, opera, rock, pop, and as a church cantor. Eddie turned down an opportunity to sing opera in Germany to stay with his first love…polka. He is a crowd pleaser with his strong and vibrant voice. Eddie is also on the Polka Jammer Network.
Barbecue chicken dinners, cabbage rolls, pierogie, kielbassa and kraut, cabbage and noodles, and other dishes will be served all day long that can be eaten in or taken out at any time.
There will be a raffle, tips, victory bars, Chinese auction, gift card raffle’s, Neal’s Dumpster raffle, and a $1,000 raffle.
A cash bar Vino di Piccin wine slushies with Ice-Cream Island being on site as well.
European Folk Art will be selling Polish items such as dolls, t-shirts, hand crafted wooden items from Poland, Polish pottery, cups, hats, and numerous other items.
The festival will be held rain or shine. No B.Y.O.B or coolers permitted on the grounds.
Barton Polkafest t-shirts will also be sold, Shuttle’s will run all day picking up and returning people from the parking lots. All proceeds benefit the Barton Volunteer Fire Department towards the building of a new $4 million fire station which construction is planned to start later this year to replace the current building that is 90 years old.
