A 20-year-old woman was arrested Friday on an aggravated murder charge following an investigation into a death in Belmont, according to the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office.

Autum Stotelmyer is currently being held in the Belmont County Jail, according to a release from Belmont County Sheriff James Zusack. She is charged with one count of aggravated murder and her initial court appearance is pending.

According to the release, Belmont County deputies responded to an incident on Buttermilk Road in Belmont and conducted a death investigation. As a result of that initial investigation, Stotelmyer was arrested and jailed, the release stated.

Because this is an active, ongoing preliminary investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said that specific details regarding the identity of the victim, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are being withheld currently to preserve investigative integrity and pending appropriate family notifications. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is on scene assisting the sheriff's office.

There is no ongoing threat to the public related to this event, Zusack said. An update with additional information will be released on Monday.

Zusack offered his appreciation to the Richland Township Police Department for its assistance in the case.
