Local child’s wish brings hope, awareness through MrBeast philanthropy project

STEUBENVILLE -- A Jefferson County child's battle with a rare illness has become part of a story reaching millions of viewers around the world, bringing attention to the power of hope, support and the impact of a simple wish.

Four-year-old Neiko Boni was among 100 children selected to have their wishes granted through a special project organized by YouTube creator and philanthropist MrBeast and Beast Philanthropy.

Through the partnership, Neiko and his family were given the opportunity to step away from the challenges of his medical journey and experience a memorable trip to Central Florida. With assistance from A Special Wish Foundation Ohio Valley Chapter, the family stayed at Give Kids the World Village and enjoyed an exclusive experience at Disney World alongside MrBeast and other children selected for the project.

The experience was featured in MrBeast's recently released YouTube video, "I Helped 100 Kids Fight Cancer!"

For A Special Wish Ohio Valley Chapter, the opportunity provided more than a memorable trip -- it helped highlight the organization's mission of granting wishes for children facing critical illnesses and medical challenges.

"This project helps shine a light on what a wish can mean for a child and their family during one of the most difficult times of their lives," said Annmarie O'Grady, executive director of A Special Wish Ohio Valley Chapter. "If this project helps just one more family discover A Special Wish, gives one more child the opportunity to experience the magic of a wish, or inspires one more person to support our mission, then its impact will extend far beyond this incredible event."

For Neiko's parents, Jake Boni and Keasha Barz, the experience provided a welcome moment of happiness after months filled with uncertainty, hospital visits and difficult decisions.

Both parents work as Steubenville police officers and have spent time away from their jobs while caring for Neiko and supporting him through his treatments.

Neiko's medical journey began when he was 2 years old after what initially appeared to be a minor bump on his head developed into something much more serious. The bump grew quickly, and Neiko began experiencing symptoms including sensitivity to light and headaches.

After additional medical testing and scans, doctors diagnosed Neiko with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), a rare cancer-like disorder in which abnormal immune cells accumulate and can damage tissue, organs and bones.

The diagnosis led to a difficult road of treatment. Neiko underwent a craniotomy to remove a tumor from his skull and began chemotherapy treatments. His condition requires ongoing monitoring and continued medical care.

Throughout Neiko's journey, the community has rallied around the family, supporting fundraising efforts to help with expenses related to medical treatment, hospital stays and travel.

A Special Wish Ohio Valley Chapter said being selected for the project was an honor and thanked MrBeast, Beast Philanthropy, Executive Director of the Central Ohio Chapter of A Special Wish Foundation Rachel Kuhn and the many individuals who helped make the experience possible.

The organization hopes the video will allow more families to learn about A Special Wish and understand that moments of joy and celebration can provide strength during some of life's most difficult circumstances.

For Neiko and his family, the trip represented a chance to create lasting memories and enjoy a moment focused not on hospital rooms and treatments, but on laughter, excitement and being together.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is one of the world's most recognized digital creators and is known for high-production videos featuring challenges, philanthropy and large-scale charitable efforts.
