BELMONT COUNTY -- Several Ohio Department of Transportation construction projects are expected to affect traffic in Belmont and Harrison counties in the coming weeks and months.
All work is weather permitting. Motorists can check OHGO.com for travel updates or follow ODOT District 11 on social media for the latest construction information.
Interstate 70
Work is underway on improvements to the I-70 Exit 208 interchange with state Route 149 near Morristown. One lane of traffic will be maintained on I-70 during construction, while traffic impacts on SR 149 are expected to begin in fall 2026.
The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2029.
Interstate 470
The I-470 westbound on-ramp from SR 7 will be closed through Aug. 20 for bridge repairs. The official detour directs motorists on SR 7 north to I-70 west.
During the project, SR 7 southbound traffic also will be restricted to one lane. The work began July 19 and is scheduled for completion Aug. 20.
U.S. and state routes
A resurfacing project is underway along 11 miles of U.S. 40, beginning at Ladybend Hill near I-70 mile marker 204 and continuing east to the western end of St. Clairsville. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The project is scheduled for completion Sept. 30.
SR 7 southbound near the I-470 interchange also is reduced to one lane for construction on the I-470 westbound on-ramp overpass. The restriction is scheduled to remain in place through Aug. 20.
SR 149 is closed one mile west of SR 9 for a slide repair project. The closure is expected to last 30 days. The official detour directs motorists south on SR 9 to SR 147 west, then back to SR 149. The detour is reversed for the opposite direction.
The overall project is scheduled for completion Oct. 31.
A resurfacing project also is underway along eight miles of SR 147 from Barnesville to Belmont. Work begins in Barnesville, continues east through Bethesda and ends just west of Belmont. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. Completion is scheduled for Sept. 30.
A culvert repair project is underway on SR 149 west of Neffs Bellaire Road. The work is expected to have minimal traffic impacts, although flaggers will be used as needed. The project is scheduled for completion Aug. 31.
Harrison County
Several projects also are expected to affect traffic in Harrison County.
An eastbound U.S. 22 exit ramp for Cadiz, U.S. 250 east and SR 9 north closed Aug. 10 and is expected to remain closed for 90 days as part of the ongoing U.S. 22 pavement rehabilitation project.
The detour directs motorists to continue east on U.S. 22 to Exit 224 for Jewett, Scio and SR 151 west, then take U.S. 22 west to Exit 220 for Cadiz, U.S. 250 east and SR 9 north.
The larger U.S. 22 pavement rehabilitation project involves removing and replacing nearly 4 miles of pavement along the four-lane section from the two-lane section west of Cadiz to just west of County Road 13, also known as Upper Clearfork Road.
Currently, one lane of traffic is maintained in the eastbound lanes. Motorists should slow down when approaching the construction zone and watch for signs. Additional ramp closures will occur throughout the project, which is expected to be completed Oct. 31, 2027.
SR 799 will be closed during daytime hours Aug. 10-21 for multiple culvert replacements. The road will be closed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Local traffic will be accommodated during closure hours. Completion is scheduled for Aug. 21.
Work also is underway on an SR 9 slide repair project between Toot Road and Upper Clearfork Road, north of U.S. 22. One lane of traffic will be maintained using temporary traffic signals, with an 11-foot width restriction. The project is expected to be completed Oct. 31.
In Bowerston, work is underway to replace a culvert just west of the SR 212/SR 151 intersection. No traffic impacts are associated with the project, although flaggers may be used when equipment is moved to and from the work site. Completion is scheduled for Sept. 30.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution in work zones and allow extra travel time.
