ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Former Martins Ferry volunteer fire chief William Rinderer pleaded guilty to one count of gross sexual imposition.
On Tuesday, Belmont County Common Pleas Judge Chris Berhalter accepted a plea deal for Rinderer that saw him receive three years in prison.
In addition to the three years in prison, the 72-year-old must register as a Tier II sex offender for 25 years.
Rinderer was indicted this past June on one count of gross sexual imposition and pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.
He previously served as fire chief more than 20 years ago and most recently was a member of the volunteer fire department's Vigilant Station.
When Rinderer was indicted, current Fire Chief Justin Smith confirmed that Rinderer is no longer affiliated with the department.
