BELMONT -- The Belmont American Legion Post 312’s annual Spaghetti Dinner is slated from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Belmont Gym, 209 Brown St., Belmont.

The cost is by donation. People can eat-in or carryout. There will also be a variety of chance auction prizes and gifts to bid on.

Post 312 Commander Johnny Waugh said the dinner is the legion’s lone fundraiser of the year, allowing it to continue operating its headquarters, which is also home to the Tri-State Military Museum, along with conducting community service projects.

In addition to the spaghetti served with freshly made meat sauce, there will also be fresh green beans cooked in ham hocks by Kathy West of Sew Biz. The dinner includes a salad or coleslaw, rolls, coffee, water and lemonade to drink. There will also be doughnuts from So Nuts 4 Donuts.

“We have 42 pounds of spaghetti to cook, and we will cook it until we run out,” Waugh added.

Waugh said Post 312 purchased its headquarters in 1933.

“We have no bar. We have no canteen. We have no poker machines. This is our only financial source of income … this spaghetti dinner. Our bills run around $500 a month.”

Waugh said Post 312 is always looking for new members and currently has 21. It meets at 10 a.m. the first Monday of the month at the post home, located at 101 E. Barrister St., Belmont. The post does not meet during winter weather months including November, December, January or February. So, its final meeting of 2026 will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.

“Anyone is welcome. You don’t have to be a member or a veteran,” he said of attending a meeting.

“These guys are like a band of brothers. We get a long great. We have a good time and enjoy each others’ company.”

Dues to become a member are $37.50 per year. The American Legion District keeps $35 of each due paid, giving the post back $2.50 per membership.

“This is why we have to do things like this,” he said of the fundraiser.

Waugh said Post 321 does service projects including decorating veterans’ graves with flags for Memorial Day, donating back to the schools for Christmastime and donating back to the village.

“We don’t want to have a big balance. We’re so generous here. We want to give back to them what they give to us,” he said.

Dinner sponsors include Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, Belmont County Veterans Service Office, Belmont County Juvenile Court/CCAP, Belmont Oliver, Steve Bobot, Bill Brost, Chester Kemp, Chick-Fil-A Highlands, Custom Killing (butcher wild meat), Domino’s Pizza, Mary Ann Droll, JP Dutton and family, East Richland Market, Jacob & Sons Meat, Kirk’s Ice Cream, Kroger of St. Clairsville, Steve Lunsford/Allstate, Missett Wealth Management, Pike 40, Nickles Bakery, Nicolozakes Cafe, So Nuts 4 Donuts, Betty Perkins, Riesbeck’s of St. Clairsville, Sam’s Club, Sew Biz, Sheetz of St. Clairsville, Cheryl Skinner, Tito’s Hot Dogs, Tlaquepaque, Thomas Auto Center, Kurt Turner, village of Belmont, VIP Nails, WesBanco Arena, Sandy Waugh, Wheeling Nailers staff and players, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack and Marilyn Wildman.
